First Responders' Day

October 28, 2021 is National First Responders Day, which is a special day we set aside to acknowledge those that rush towards trouble and are among the first on the scene in times of need.

Our first responders are our everyday heroes, ordinary people doing extraordinary things through a combination of training, determination, the desire to help and a good dose of what might best be called plain old “grit”. Not only do our first responders get up and go when called, but they do so regularly while knowing that being first on the scene means that conditions will almost certainly be difficult, unpleasant, and most likely dangerous.

Remember the Fallen

We are living in a time where our national, state, and local focus has been captured by many important topics, including the effects of the coronavirus, election integrity, fiscal policy, social issues, etc. These are all important issues, but we should all try to mark this day meaningfully, so let’s all try to thank an emergency responder for the important service that they provide to our society.

I will do the same and will continue to do so. One policy proposal that I have submitted is a small token of appreciation for those who have given their all. I have sponsored HB 201 “An Act relating to special registration plates commemorating police officers killed in the line of duty”. If you have time, please consider supporting this bill and contact me with support, questions, or other comments. I hope to get this bill passed in the next regular session.
